Easy-peezy Side Dish: Baked Macaroni and Cheese

It is Tuesday and that means anything goes on The Nifty-Thrifty Lady! I wanted to share a go to side dish in the fall and winter months for my family. I have to tell you before hand it is not all that healthy it is just a wonderfully scrumptious and easy recipe that I had to share! Baked Macaroni and Cheese! So your probably thinking this has been done, and your right it has. However, this macaroni can be thrown together in under 10 mins and all of the ingredients are most likely in your fridge or pantry.not to mention the whole dish can be made for under $5.00 if you keep milk, butter and cheese on hand!

Baked Marconi and Cheese

1lb box of elbow or smaller pasta noodle
12 slices of favorite cheddar or Colby cheese
1 cup of favorite cheddar or Colby shredded cheese

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the entire box of noodles, boil until noodles are are soft, usually 10-12 minutes

Drain noodles In a 13 x 9 pan add on layer of noodles

Add 6 sliced of cheese on top of this layer and sprinkle with 1/2 cup shredded cheese

Repeat the same directions for the top layer
Add about 1/3 cup of milk, pour evenly over the top of the macaroni and had 1/2 teaspoons of butter about 6
Bake on 350 degrees for 30-45 mins (depending on your oven)
So, I forgot to take a picture of the finished product! This is of the Mac n' cheese at thanksgiving same recipe. Sorry, but my family loves it and when it's done everyone wants some!

I hope you enjoy and let me know your thoughts if you try!

Happy baking!

  1. Ah, homemade mac-and-cheese - the ultimate comfort food! Just looking at the photos brings back memories of my grandmother. She made the _best_ mac-and-cheese, but I'll admit, it never occurred to me that there might be a version that was as easy as this. I really should not be reading your blog on my lunch break at work because now I am super hungry and what I have available to eat here is not going to be nearly as good as your mac-and-cheese looks! :-)

  2. Wow! That looks so so so good! Guess what I'm going to make for dinner on Saturday after my son's baseball game, LOL! I'm always scrambling for something, and this is going to go over great :-)

  3. Jenn, I hope that your family loves it as much as mine do!

  4. Rebecca, My grandma actually showed me this recipe when I was young. She said she never had time to worry with all of the stove top cheese melting! So she just let the oven do the work.

  5. This looks so good-- I love mac and cheese and so does my hubby-- this is going in the recipe binder :)

    Thanks for sharing
