3 Father's Day Gifts that Mean More and Cost Less

Cost friendly Fathers day gifts
Every Year I STRUGGLE with what to get the men in my life for father's day. Well, maybe, not my husband we are still in the tool collecting phase of life, umm ladies tell me you know what I mean?
But I definitely lose sleep over what to get my father/father-in-law and grandfathers.

This year for mothers day I cooked all the mom's in my life a meal and took enough for their spouse so they did not have to cook. It made their day and that is not me bragging! Cooking is a passion of mine so the idea just came to me and my husband that it would be an excellent gift of love instead of some nick-nac cluttering up the house or a gift card this year.

It got me thinking about what I could do for the fathers that was on the same level so here are my

3 Meaningful Father's Day Gifts

1. Homemade Food- The way to a man's heart is through their stomach and this is very true! When it comes to making food for anyone the idea is to have them completely in mind. Don't make YOUR signature dish because YOU like it and are good at it. Find out what THEIR favorite meal and dessert is and work that into your budget. If your guys are up for anything then some great meals that feed large numbers are:
  • Grilled BBQ Chicken, with Sweet Potato Hash, Roasted Green Beans, in season fruit and Dessert of choice.
  • Spinach Lasagna with Roasted Green Beans, Garlic Bread, in season fruit and Dessert of choice
For Mother's Day if you follow me on Facebook you know that I cooked Steak, Roasted Green Beans, Sweet Potato Hash, Watermelon that was on sale with in ad-coupon, and made Peanut Butter Chocolate bites. I had a budget of $45.00 to feed 10 people and I did it! The key is buying in-expensive cuts of steak and giving it a great marinade. Then grill on high for 2 Minutes each side and then 7-9 minutes on medium/low. Once done add a little square of butter and fold each steak in individual foil packets to keep warm. Your steak will turn out perfect even on a budget!

2. Labor of Love- Call  your dad or ask your husband if there is something you could help out with around the house for Father's day. Giving your time in the chaotic lives we lead is so much more meaningful than sending a high price tag gift card! I got this idea from all of the help my husband has given to both of our families over the past year.  This act of giving of time creates memories with loved ones and that is something you can never get back.

3. Written with Love-  I know that many folks can't hop in their car and drive to see their dad's. So I will not forget about you.  Hand written letters, not cards, not emails, not even a typed letter will do for this. A HANDWRITTEN LETTER sent by the post office with a good ol' stamp on it is one of the most precious things anyone can get. But, from a child to a father that is really special. What you fill the letter with is completely up to you although, I have found the more personal and honest the for meaningful.

The Key to gift giving is not about the price tag, it is about the thought and motive behind the gift. Knowing that simple thing will make any holiday or gift giving occasion one you can make low cost!
