Shopping at Chambersburg Grocery Outlet

Grocery Outlet
Our Tri-state area just added a new "bargain" grocery store to the area called Chambersburg Grocery Outlet. Being the frugalistia that I am I had to check it out, see what deals they had and "learn the lay of the land" so to speak. Today I am excited to share with you the ins and outs of the store and how to shop so you are getting the most for your money.

I personally like to reach out to companies when I am going to attend their business so I can talk to them and ask any questions I have brewing in this brain. Unexpectedly when I did this with The Chambersburg Grocery Outlet they were sweet enough to offer me a little compensation for checking their store out and helping you guys determine if this store is the best fit for you. Don't worry I didn't let this colud my judgement and I decided to pass a little of my savings on to you (more on that later, check the bottom of this post!). The Chambersburg Grocery Outlet,  Let's refer to it as CGO for the rest of this post, is laid out just like a normal grocery store. They carry all of your commonly used products including brand name meats, dairy, household items, and personal care. For this reason I would say that you could do ALL of you shopping here.

The one thing you have to keep in mind about CGO is that the stock WILL change. This is due to how stock comes in. CGO will buy out over stock, excess, or even old packing from a brand at a discount and then the discount is passed on to the us. Because of this type of buying you will not always find the same snack cookies, brand of dog food, or toothpaste. However, you can rest assured that the price you are paying is going to be LESS than the conventional grocery store. Bottom-line if you see a product you love stock up on it.

On that note it is important to understand that some items will not be sold at a discount. These are items like milk, bread, eggs ect. offered at market price so you can do all of your shopping conveniently at one location. Bottom-line the amount of money you are saving on all of your other products will be more than enough to cover the cost plus you can still use apps like Checkout-51 for rebates.

One last thing to think about before I share with your how I suggest you to shop at CGO. Each Grocery Outlet is owned by someone in that area. So you will see their family at local schools, community events and connecting with other local organizations. This is a great feature that helps the store stay grounded and rooted.Bottom-line you are supporting local business when shopping.

Know let's have a look at my shopping trip and talk about the items I would recommend you absolutely buy there.

Loss Leader:
These items are products that draw folks in and occasionally the store may not make much if any of a profit on. I found these at CGO to be right as you walk in the door or in their promotional email you can sign up for here. Shopping these deals and buying a few at a time would be a great option.

This can be a hit or miss at bargain stores. At CGO I found these great GLASS containers for $3.99 which is a steal. I would be on the look out while there for any of these needs as well. The most important things is to know what a good price is and set a budget so you don't overspend.

CGO has what is called N.O.S.H or Natural, Organic, Specialty, and Healthy. These are a must buy here! I love that they are name brands just like you would get a Martin's or Healthy food stores but at a much, MUCH lower price. My favorite find was pure Maple syrup 12 oz which is normally $12.99 and up for only $7.99!

I was really surprised when I saw this local coffee selection for only $5.99 a bag! This is a great deal and they are kind enough to offer a coffee grinder in store in case you don't have one. They do sell ground coffee just in case you were wondering.

Roasted coffee

Produce, Meat, Dairy:
There are deals to be had and I love that their meat policy is right there for all to see. I found Nitrate free bacon for only $1.29/lb. This is amazing! Regular bacon is normally $3.00/lb or up. Remember you may not see a steep discount on milk and eggs but you will see a great deal on other items.

What to buy at chambersburg grocery outlet

Here is what I got when I went to the Grand Opening:

Chambersburg Grocery Outlet

My total was $40.16 and I saved $35.79. This savings is calculated for you based on the market price of the items at national grocery store.

I felt very comfortable paying this much for the items I got because they were all either organic, diet specific or a "Convenience" item (milk, laundry detergent).

Important things to note:

  • Coupons are not excepted but you can sign up for promotional emails that will sometimes have threshold coupons available.
  • Unlike other discount stores nothing is near expiration. All of the items are well within date.
I will be going back to CGO on a monthly bases since it is not too far away and look forward to it.

I wanted to pass on a little savings to you all so I am giving away a $5.00  Gift Card to CGO purchased with my own money I promise! NOTE:This gift card can be used at all locations

Entering is simple so please take advantage of this!

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to my husband for coming along and helping take pictures. He actually enjoyed it because the store is very straight to the point and didn't have a bunch of unnecessary items to grab my attention.

Have you already made a trip to CGO? Do you plan to? Let me know in the comments below!
