3 Tips to be present more at home

There has never been a time in the world's history were people have had as many distractions as we do now in the palm of their hands. 
Thanks to smartphones keeping us connected 24/7 we have to intentionally choice to be present every day, something that used to be natural.

I remember a few years back when one of my favorite bloggers wrote a post about being on her phone at the pool and her son nearly drown. I have to admit I had a judgy mom moment and thought "Why would you have your phone out at the pool and why write about it?  The truth is I may not have had a near death moment with my boys but I am so very guilty of never being fully present when we are together. 

How am I choosing to be present over all the distractions?  Great questions!

For August I have made it my primary goal for the family.

1. I will not be working every evening. With writing the blog, being in school full time, and working as a virtual assistant for a great entrepreneur I find it is easier to work when my husband is home in the evenings. The issue is that lately, it has been working every evening 6 days a week.  I will work in the evenings 2 times a week and the other 5 no work will be done after 6pm.
2. No devices at meal times. This is hard for me personally because I take pictures with my phone's camera. I am looking into getting an actual camera so the temptation isn't there to check social media and emails. Another tip is if you have to be available by phone for work set a special ringtone for work calls only and take your phone off the table. 
3. No Devices 1 evening each work week and limited devices on Sunday. When we went on Vacation this summer we loved the freedom of not being tied to our phones. I love social media. I love building relationships with you all I really do. But sometimes it becomes obligatory and in the moment I need to think about my family. We decided to limit all devices computers, video games, tablets, and phones. 

I know the outcome will be wonderful for our family. I also know it will be a challenge to break some pretty bad habits!
